A Wall to Keep Northerners Out (2002)It is widely believed that there is a divide in England between the north and the south, but there is much speculation where this border might exist. It is often discussed in terms of culture and economy but it is also enforced by prejudice and sterotypes. A Wall to Keep Northerners Out is a film which supposes the government are dividing the country with a soon to be completed giant wall. The film takes on the style of a Channel 5 news report which covers a number of sub stories relating to it's iminant completion. As protests gather to disrupt the final construction, fights break out in supermarkets over mushy peas and black pudding. A new national stadium is proposed to play out north v south competitions, while another story describes the re-allocation of national landmarks - as half of the London Eye is taken up north it is adapted with a new swinging pirateship motion. The project aims to provoke thought about our social topography, and questions how the attitudes and values of the country might change with manipulation of it's geography.
